Modern Eclectic with a Touch of Retro @ Anchorvale

Property Type: HDB, 5 room flat

A Home Reimagined for the Long Run

After five years of living in their home, a couple and their pet dog decided it was time for a transformation—one that would optimize their space for a long-term stay. Having experienced the space firsthand, they had a clear understanding of their lifestyle, and it was my role as an interior designer to bring their vision to life.

A Seamless & Playful Common Bath

To enhance the layout, the common bathroom entrance was relocated to the foyer and seamlessly integrated into cabinetry, creating a discreet entryway. Inside, a playful retro vibe sets the tone, with bold geometric terrazzo tiles as the main feature and a pink wall-mounted sink adding a fun, unexpected touch for guests.

A Functional & Social Open Kitchen

The open-concept kitchen remains, anchored by a versatile bar island that serves multiple purposes—a prep counter, hidden storage with pull-out drawers for appliances, and a cozy bar-top seating area with fluted panel details for added texture. It’s a space designed for both function and casual gatherings.

A Living Space That Blends Nostalgia & Practicality

Keeping the living and dining area open and airy, the couple opted for loose furniture complemented by sentimental keepsakes like a grandmother’s sewing machine and an old telephone, adding warmth and character. A light blueish-grey wall, painted up to ¾ height, enhances the illusion of higher ceilings, while strategic wall lighting creates a cozy ambiance in the evenings. An archway at the bedroom corridor softens the transition between spaces. Being avid cyclists, they also have a designated area to store and showcase their bikes as part of the decor.

A Refined Master Suite & Personalized Hobby Rooms

A walk-in wardrobe was carved out in the master bedroom to maximize storage. For a more elegant master bathroom, we introduced a black-and-white abstract floral tile as a striking feature wall. The couple also transformed the two additional rooms into personalized hobby spaces, each tailored to their individual interests.

A Space That Grows With Them

This renovation was more than just an aesthetic upgrade—it was about crafting a home that reflects the couple’s lifestyle, personal history, and future needs, ensuring their space remains both meaningful and functional for years to come.
